Justin “JP” Roth is 32 going on 15. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas who has recently picked up a bit of an unusual hobby: he modifies and custom-builds foam dart blasters, commonly known as Nerf guns, to improve performance and sometimes for cosmetic purposes.
A modified blaster can launch a standard Nerf dart anywhere between 50 and 100 feet, depending on the modifications done, and a custom-built one has a range between 100 and 150 feet using custom-built foam darts called slugs or AMIORs.
The Houston-Area Nerfers Group, a small and informal collection of like-minded individuals, hosts HAMNO, the Houston-Area Monthly Nerf Outing. As the name would imply, it is a monthly gathering of people who enjoy the idea of running around in a park shooting at each other. The gathering is open to people of all ages.
For more information, check them out on Facebook or attend the Houston Mini Maker Faire on January 19 and meet them and over 100 other makers.
